Cleveland Cavaliers: Donovan Mitchell’s Insane Playoff Scoring Almost Reached Allen Iverson Level
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell silenced his doubters when he led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a Game 7 win against the Orlando Magic. Along the way, he put up an insane performance worthy of NBA legend Allen Iverson.

In the series-clinching game between Cleveland and the Magic, the former went home with the 106-94 victory. After trailing Orlando by 18 points after the first half, Mitchell scored 24 of his 39 points in the second for the Cavs to advance to the next round. As a result, Spida made history by getting over the biggest Game 7 lead in playoff history.

Apart from Mitchell, Evan Mobley dropped 11 points, 16 rebounds, and five blocks while Jarrett Allen was out of the lineup. Caris Levert added 15 points from the bench while Max Strus notched 13 points in 32 minutes.

The Magic, on the other hand, saw an impressive performance from sophomore Paolo Banchero when he finished the game with 38 points and 16 rebounds. Apart from Orlando’s All-Star forward, only Jalen Suggs and Wendell Carter Jr. scored in double digits with 10 and 13 points, respectively.

The win helped the Cavs advance to the next round where they’ll face Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics. Orlando, meanwhile, enter the offseason with a promising team, as evidenced by Banchero’s improvement.

Donovan Mitchell Puts Up Allen Iverson-Like Performance in Cleveland Cavaliers’ Game 7 Win Against Orlando Magic

Thanks to his monster performance in Game 7, more eyes have turned towards Mitchell’s direction in a favorable manner. As seen in a pair of tweets posted by StatMuse, Spida played on another level during his series against Orlando.

“Donovan Mitchell scored 44.1% of the Cavs points in Game 6 and Game 7,” StatMuse tweeted.

“Donovan Mitchell scored 89 points in Game 6 and 7. That’s 2nd-most all-time, behind AI’s 90 points in the 2001 ECF,” StatMuse added.

To say that Mitchell’s performance for Cleveland has been great is an understatement. In seven games, the All-Star guard averaged 28.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest. Even though he only shot 25 percent from deep, his game was still enough to clinch the series for the Cavs.

The Cavs are scheduled to face Boston in the next round and they’re bound to be a more dangerous opponent than a Banchero-led Magic team. But if there’s any hope for Cleveland to win, fans can be sure Mitchell is the reason behind it.
